Game Dynamics

From Civ Game

Jump to: navigation, search

Game dynamics refers to the many aspects of the game that are outside the actual simulation ("metagame") and don't have to do with the interactions of nations. Much of this is merely to set out program design to avoid having to make decisions while coding.

[edit] Graphics

Your help is needed for this part! Contact civgamewiki@gmail.com if you are interested in creating graphics for Civ Game.

[edit] Sound

A sound program will be found. Sounds are vital and must be done well. Free stock sounds may be utilized.

[edit] Title Screen

Options:

  • Start new game
  • Select account
  • Multiplayer
  • Preferences
  • Account records
  • Update
  • Contribute

[edit] Accounts

When the game is opened, the first screen will be the "select account" screen. There will be optional password protection if people are concerned with others deleting their saves. Saves can only be deleted from within Civ Game by the account that created them; however, they can be loaded by anyone. If a copy is then made, it is marked as belonging to the other account. Accounts also contain records and preferences. During creation there will be a disclaimer (it will only change initial preferences) that asks the following questions:

  • How much have you played this game?
    • I'm new to video games.
    • I'm new to Civ Game.
    • I'm still not that experienced.
    • I'm experienced enough.
    • I'm very experienced.
  • How much do you want to think while playing this game?
    • Let me just do the killing.
    • Let me make some of the decisions.
    • Make it about half and half.
    • I want to do everything important.
    • I want to do everything possible.
  • How involved do you want to be with this game?
    • I just want to play.
    • I might report some bugs.
    • I would test some new things.
    • I would work on graphics, sound and help with development
    • I'm either a programmer or an expert in some related subject and want to help.

[edit] Multiplayer

When Civ Game is well established, we will create our own dedicated server. Before then, players will have to do one of the other options in the Multiplayer page. There will be information on how to make it work embedded in the game.

[edit] Preferences

Includes what modules are used or automated and other normal preferences settings (graphics quality, sound settings, shortcuts, and so on).

[edit] Account Records

Everybody loves to see how they have been doing. This section will have number of wins and losses, total number of games and hours played, comparisons with other players, highest score achieved, etc.

[edit] Update

When the update occurs, the player can choose new modules to include or just get all of them in the standard download. Also, it will request that they submit anonymous Civ Game usage statistics.

[edit] Contribute

The Civ Game mission statement will be displayed and the everyone can help part and a link to the website.

[edit] Donations

A PayPal account will be made when the game is ready for release.

[edit] Starting a Game

Options:

  • Difficulty
  • Micromanagement level
  • Modules
  • Flora and fauna
  • Map generation
  • Age select
  • Combat setting
  • Map size

Civ Game in its entirety will not be appealing to all audiences. The micromanagement level will be used to automate module packages to make it easier for the player. Many of these are decided when creating the account. Flora and fauna will default as Earth.

[edit] Difficulties

Each difficulty has a different AI and also a set of unique characteristics that make the game either easier or harder.

[edit] Beginner

  • Corruption: None
  • Peter Principle: None
  • Starting Power: Strongest
  • Automation: Full

In addition, there are production and combat bonuses.

[edit] Easy

  • Corruption: Yes, except for advisors
  • Peter Principle: Low
  • Starting Power: Strong
  • Automation: Most

[edit] Normal

  • Corruption: Yes, including advisors
  • Peter Principle: Low
  • Starting Power: Average
  • Automation: Some

[edit] Hard

  • Corruption: Yes, including advisors
  • Peter Principle: Normal
  • Starting Power: Weak
  • Automation: None

This option is the closest to "real life".

[edit] Expert

  • Corruption: Extra
  • Peter Principle: High
  • Starting Power: Very weak
  • Automation: None

In addition, there are combat and production penalties. This option is more difficult than "real life".

[edit] Tutorial

When an account plays its first game, the game will plead that they take the tutorial, on grounds that "you will be fucked if you do not take this because this game is fancy". It will have a 4 part tutorial:

  • Basic stuff: only stuff video game noobs wouldn't know.
  • Basic civ stuff: the stuff that most people won't know going into the game.
  • Complicated civ stuff: the stuff that is fun to know but not required
  • Advanced civ stuff: only for the advanced players.

[edit] Beginning Game

The modules that are to be used are loaded. There will be a beginning message, as well as one final plead to make them take the tutorial. Otherwise, the beginning game is normal.

[edit] Playing the Game

See Time for how the player will go turn by turn. When a module is needed it will be mounted and used. Often at the end or beginning of the turn, all enabled modules will fire.

[edit] History Book

Major events are recorded in the history book. At times portions are lost if there is no writing.

[edit] Help Reference

There will be a help reference for many aspects of the game. It will provide clear and useful information.

[edit] Save

Saved game names will be of the format account name-date-nation-in game year.

[edit] End Game

At the end, points are counted up and the player is rated on several bar graphs designed to show their strengths and weaknesses. This data is then used to compare the player to a leader in actual history. This can also be done in the history book for all the past leaders.

[edit] Credits

The credits will include how God offered his left nut upon completion, all contributors to Civ Game, the APWH history teacher of the creators and how inspirational Civilization has been by being so horrible.
